The District
of Eastville

Eastville is a small rural community 20 km north west of Maldon. The Church of All Saints is is one of the main features that remain in the district. In bygone days there was a school, a blacksmith's shop and a post office agency.

The district is dependent on agriculture for it's livelihood, with many of the farms in the district being held by the same family for many generations.

The first Anglican services at Eastville were held at the Eastville school, which opened in 1873 and in 1905 the original All Saints building was erected, some three years after the Diocese of Bendigo came into being.

Due to the ravages of time and hungry termites, the original weatherboard building was demolished in March 1982 and the current building constructed on the site. Apart from the laying of masonry blocks and the electrical wiring, it was constructed by voluntary labour from church and community members and the new building was consecrated on July 11th of the same year by Bishop Oliver Heyward.

All Saints
today
A small and faithful congregation meets twice a month on the first and third Sundays for worship, although occasionally special services are held in the afternoon, followed by afternoon tea.

Quite often the congregation is supported by some members of St Paul’s Laanecoorie and often Eastville reciprocates by joining their services.

Their contribution to parish life is considerable, with close involvement in joint social occasions and leadership responsibilities. ‘Country hospitality’ is a feature of combined parish services at Eastville, which have included on occasion the Blessing of the Fleece in a shearing shed, followed by a barbecue lunch and supplying refreshments for eager buyers during a clearing sale.

The influence of the Church in the area was demonstrated by the large attencdance (90+) at the 95th anniversary service in October 2000 and again at its centenary in 2005 (90+)..
